Watch Us In Action

Want to learn the background of why we are doing this project and what it is about? This is a brief description of our project and a link to our presentation!

In preparation for our Interactive Qualifying Project (IQP), we spent an entire term (7 weeks) learning about our topic and starting to work on material in order to hit the ground running when we planning to arrive in Namibia on March 14th, 2020. As you may have gathered, our project has changed quite a bit in light of the current pandemic happening in the world. Unfortunately, we were unable to travel to Namibia and will be completing our project remotely from the United States. However, we are still working with our sponsor, the Hanns Seidel Foundation, and still roughly completing the same goals with our project. The only major alteration is in regards to the prototype. Before we were going to go to Namibia and work with local aquaponics expert, Burton Julius, to build a prototype of the aquaponic system in a local school. Now Burton Julius will still be going forward with the assembling of an aquaponics system there and we will assist by collaborating on the design.

With this post we wanted to share with you the work that we did in preparation for our IQP project. Just before we were about to set off to Namibia we did a presentation on our project. This included information such as why we were doing the project, the deliverables that we were aiming to produce, how we planned to achieve our goals and the potential impact we hoped to have. If you are curious about any of these aspects of our project, please feel free to watch our presentation. We have worked very hard on this project and plan to bring our project to life in the next seven weeks. Throughout the term we will be posting the information we learn and how our project is progressing.

By the end of these seven weeks you will be able to see how our project has evolved from these preliminary stages. We hope you enjoy! Take a look at our original understanding of our project and how we plan to help Namibia with its food insecurity through the use of aquaponic systems!
